Dr Marie-Elaine Grant (PhD, D.Sc., FFSEM (Hon.), SMISCP, MCSP)

Professional Highlights:

Dr Marie-Elaine Grant is a highly experienced Chartered Physiotherapist whose career spans over three decades, combining clinical excellence, international leadership, and a deep commitment to patient care.

A graduate of University College Dublin, Marie-Elaine has built a distinguished career in

sports and exercise physiotherapy, rehabilitation, and clinical research. While widely

recognised for her work in high-performance sport, her clinical practice reflects a much broader philosophy—supporting individuals across all stages of life, from those returning to everyday function to elite athletes competing on the world stage.

Her journey in physiotherapy has been shaped by a passion for understanding movement, restoring function, and guiding recovery. Over many years in practice, she has treated a wide spectrum of musculoskeletal conditions, always taking an individualised and holistic approach. Her work extends beyond injury management to include injury prevention, long-term rehabilitation, and optimising physical performance.

Marie-Elaine served as Lead Physiotherapist to Ireland’s Olympic Team from 1990 to 2010, supporting athletes at five Summer and two Winter Olympic Games. In 2010, she was appointed to the International Olympic Committee’s Health, Medicine and Science

Commission, where she has since contributed to the planning, delivery, and evaluation of medical and physiotherapy services across multiple Olympic Games.

Alongside her clinical and international work, Marie-Elaine has remained deeply committed to education and professional development. She regularly teaches and mentors both undergraduate and postgraduate physiotherapists, contributes to international conferences, and continues to be actively involved in clinical research, with several peer-reviewed publications.

In recognition of her contribution to physiotherapy, she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by University College Dublin, and more recently, an Honorary Fellowship from the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland following the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

At the heart of Marie-Elaine’s work is a strong belief in the value of ongoing learning,

precision in clinical practice, and delivering the highest standard of care. She is passionate about sharing her knowledge and experience, and takes great pride in supporting her patients and colleagues to achieve their full potential.
